TRINANT METHODIST CHURCH JOINT CAROL SERVICE WITH HOREB CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH – a Report by Ron Mabe:
We had planned to base our joint carol service on a Christmas children’s play performed by the Trinant Drama Group which is led by one of our members. Sadly a number of parents preferred to attend a special event in the local public house and new arrangements had to be organised at short notice.
With a small membership this was a big challenge but the members of both churches rose to the occasion and thirteen individuals contributed to the service. This is a tribute to the excellent relationship between the two churches and the service, which was well appreciated by all who attended, followed the theme of “the true meaning of Christmas”. This had not been pre-planned but it confirmed the view of Rev. Billy Graham who said more than 50 years ago “The very purpose of Christ’s coming into the world was that He might offer up His life as a sacrifice for the sins of men. He came to die”. Our closing message included a reading of a new Christmas song “It’s about the cross” some of which is repeated here.
It’s not just about the presents underneath the tree
It’s not all about the feeling that the season brings to me
It’s not just about coming home to be with those you love
It’s not all about the beauty in the snow I’m dreaming of
The beginning of the story is wonderful and great
But it’s the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate
It’s about the cross, it’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again
It’s about God’s love nailed to a tree
It’s about every drop of blood that flowed
From Him when it should have been me
It’s about the stone that was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
