‘I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils…’
Last year each of the churches of the Gwent Hills and Vales Circuit was given a daffodil bulb, a symbol of new life and the promise of growth. The folk at Newbridge Methodist Church planted their bulb, as well as several others, at the base of the outside church notice board. There is now a lovely display of yellow and green. We hope that the daffodils will give pleasure to all those who pass by as well as to those who use our buildings.
‘…I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.’
(William Wordsworth)
